About this workshop: A farmer-to-farmer workshop and roundtable digging into the financial realities of raising and selling perennial crops, with presentations from two fast-growing local farms operating in very different parts of the marketplace.
What you’ll learn: From ornamentals and berries to fruit trees and medicinal herbs, perennial crops are an attractive way for farmers to diversify their offerings and shift their production schedules.
This workshop will feature presentations from two leading local farms: The Farm Connection, an edible, medicinal, and native plant nursery and garden center in Marshall, NC; and J&M Farms a family-owned mountain apple orchard in Hendersonville – who both recently graduated from Mountain BizWorks’ ScaleUp WNC program. They’ve done a lot of deep work on their financials and business models, and we’re thrilled to have them join us and share some of their financial and operational insights with fellow farmers in the region.
The presentations will be followed by Q&A and a roundtable discussion lifting up insights from everyone in the room.
Who should attend: Farmers who are either looking to start growing and selling perennial crops, or to scale up or improve an existing perennial crop operation.
Cost: Nothing! This is a free workshop, made possible through a collaboration between ASAP and Mountain BizWork, and funded via a grant from the Southern Risk Management Education Center. Appalachian Grown certified farms who register and attend this workshop will receive a workshop stipend of $27.75 to help cover some of their off farm time.
