Making Dreams Happen in the High Country
Last year Mountain BizWorks expanded into the High Country and opened an office in Boone, NC serving entrepreneurs in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, and Watauga Counties. Our network of entrepreneurs and small business coaches in the High Country is growing and it includes the very talented Madelyn Hjertmann.
Madelyn is passionate about helping entrepreneurs make their dreams happen and she’s built a career around it. In addition to providing one-on-one business coaching to Mountain BizWorks clients, she is the Program Director for Ascent Business Network in Boone where she organizes small business training workshops and events. She’s also a owns and operates the Valle Crucis Lavender House, a seasonal agritourist destination in the High Country.
Madelyn moved to Boone from Chicago three years ago when her husband took a job at Appalachian State University. “Every year I get more and more excited about staying in Boone,’ she says. “All the entrepreneurs I meet have beautiful visions for the world. This area seems to attract socially conscious business owners and it’s inspiring to help create social enterprises.”
As a business owner financial management was a challenge for Madelyn. One she overcame after earning an MBA from Duke University. As a business coach she is particularly good at helping clients understand exactly how their business works financially. “One of my favorite things is when a business owner realizes financial management is not over their head. There is so much you can build on once you have the tools to decipher you financial information.”
