Jason Brodsky’s business offers a unique proposition: “bringing yogic principles to the real estate transaction.” As the owner of Asheville Holistic Realty, a boutique real estate brokerage firm based within Keller Williams, Jason is working to build a successful business on a healthy foundation.
Jason is currently participating in our Business Boot Camp, so we checked in with him to see how it was going.
Why did you start your business?
Prior to getting into the real estate business, I was a concert sound engineer. But I got tired of living on the road and realized that I love people. I had also had some negative experiences as a real estate consumer and thought, “You know what? I can do this a whole lot better.”
How do you combine yoga and real estate?
I’ve been practicing yoga for about 20 years and one of the main principles of yoga is to remain objective and neutral. So when I refer to “holistic realty,” I mean that when we’re engaged with a client, it’s our role to understand what the most important thing is for that client.
When we move through the transaction and reach intersections where a decision needs to be made, it’s our role to remain calm, cool, and collected and present the client with an objective opinion so they can make the best informed decision to achieve their goal. This approach has been tremendously effective, and we consistently set top sales awards.
Do you have any employees?
I personally only represent sellers because I love property analysis. So in addition to myself, my business has two employees: Mark Gibbs, our Buyer Specialist; and Kyle Case, our Client Care Specialist and Closing Coordinator.
Why did you decide to sign up for Business Boot Camp?
I’ve been in Asheville for 12 years and have been aware of Mountain BizWorks and watched first-hand as your clients become successful.
The challenge I’m having in my business is how to scale it up, because my ultimate goal is to create a salable business. I was interested in Boot Camp specifically because I wanted to avail myself of the perspectives of those who are not in the same world I’m in. Also, to quote Gary Keller, “Accountability is the relationship of choice of champions.”
What changes are you making as a result of Boot Camp?
Boot Camp has helped me look at my business from an entirely new perspective. It’s bringing a new emphasis on collaboration – I’m learning how to sit down with my team and organically deconstruct and re-construct our goals.
Boot Camp has also underscored the importance of replicable systems. For example, one of the facilitators, Jeff Pennypacker, talked about how having systems in place before he sold his business made everything go much more smoothly for the buyer.
I absolutely love Boot Camp, and would recommend it to anyone. With all of the fun activities, it’s like a cross between kindergarten and business school!
